Hi Gramps; Once again I come to you with a question....I am so glad you are here to ask, did Adam and Eve know of the plan, and eat of the fruit because of the plan, or was it a situation where they did not know and chose to? I had a gentleman from the Jehovah Witness challenge me to find the scripture that indicated one or the other,,, I enjoy searching, but do not know where to look, and I need to know too. Thanks. Patti--
Before the fall Adam and Eve were immortal, terrestrial beings, living on a
terrestrial earth. According to Elder Bruce R. McConkie, "When the Lord
created this earth, it was in a terrestrial state, an Edenic state, a
paradisiacal state; death had not then entered the world. Adam and Eve and all
created things were in an immortal state" (Doctrinal New Testament
Commentary, Vol.3, p.367).
They undoubtedly knew of the plan of salvation. They had been instructed by the
Lord. However, they possessed their free wills and had their agency. Eve was
tempted by Satan and succumbed to the temptation. However, Adam resisted the
temptation, but knowingly partook of the forbidden fruit in order to fulfill the
Lord's plan "And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in
the transgression" (1 Timothy 2:14.)
