Hey
gramps, I got thinking the other day. Before
we came to earth we lived as spirits with our heavenly father.
But do our spirits have an age?
Or a better question is did God create our spirits or did we just
always exist? Just curious. Thanks. Jeff, from Utah |
Dear
Jeff,
As
spirits we were offspring of our Heavenly Parents. Paul says,
Furthermore
we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence:
shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
(Hebrews 12:9)
The
Savior, our elder brother among the spirit children of God, was the first-born;
and Lucifer, who fell and was cast out because of rebellion was “a son of the
morning.” (See Isaiah 14:12).
We
are of the race of the Gods, and as such have the potential to grow to an
eternal maturity and become like our Heavenly Parents. Our Father’s
instructions for our continued growth and development are encompassed in the
teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Concerning those who adhere to all the
principles of the gospel, it is said that
they
are they who are the church of the Firstborn. They are they into whose hands the
Father has given all things--They are they who are priests and kings, who have
received of his fulness, and of his glory; And are priests of the Most High,
after the order of Melchizedek, which was after the order of Enoch, which was
after the order of the Only Begotten Son. Wherefore, as it is written, they
are gods, even the sons of God
(D&C 76:54-58).
